Ghana, Egypt battle for 2017 AFCON hosting rights

Ghana and Egypt have joined five other countries, including Algeria and Zimbabwe, in applying to host the 2017 Nations Cup, according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The other three countries are Gabon, Kenya and Sudan.

Nominations were opened on August 23, 2014, following the withdrawal of Libya, the original host of the 31st edition of the Nations Cup.

According to a statement from CAF, the host country will be decided by its Executive Committee during one of its sessions in 2015.

Due to the limited time frame for the organisation of the 2017 continental showpiece, the Executive Committee will attempt to select a host with acceptable infrastructure and facilities such as  stadia, training grounds, accommodation, communications.
