UNDP officials in West Africa to visit Ebola affected countries

A high-level UNDP Mission is visiting Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Senegal to boost efforts to contain the Ebola outbreak as well as help preserve essential services and livelihoods. 

The Ebola crisis is continuously causing immediate health and humanitarian impact and also increasingly having crippling social and economic effects. 

Assistant Secretary-General, Magdy Martínez-Solimán and Deputy Assistant Administrator of UNDP, Ruby Sandhu-Rojon, are due to travel to the three countries from now till the 14th of this month to galvanize UN coordination efforts to combat the Ebola crisis and assess UNDP’s work on the ground. 

The trip will include site visits to Ebola treatment centers, as well as meetings with government authorities, partner UN Agencies, NGOs and Civil Society Organizations involved in halting the spread of the disease. 

Martínez-Solimán and Sandhu-Rojon will also hold talks with Special Representative and head of the UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER), Anthony Banbury.
