Sentencing offenders of law in court is challenging- Justice Samuel Marful- Sau

Appeal court judge Justice Samuel Marful-Sau says the bench and indeed the entire judicial service recognise that sentencing offenders of the law in court is a huge challenge.

A committee has consequently been set up to draw up sentencing guideline to guide magistrates and judges to ensure uniformity and consistency of judgements at the courts.

Speaking on Radio Ghana's current affairs programme "Focus" in Accra today, Justice Marful-Sau acknowledge the challenge, adding that judges themselves sometimes get embarrassed by some of the delays and inconsistencies of judgement.

Madam Rebecca Adjalo, a Senior Attorney at the Attorney General's Department debunked the perception among the public that lawyers in the AG's department deliberately stay from the court when it comes to certain cases, saying that notion is unfortunate because they have good reasons for not going to court and it is not intentional.

Chief Superintendent Fredrick Kwadwo-Agyei of the Police Legal Directorate at Police Headquaters believes the police contribute effectively to ensure speedy delivery of justice. According to him, the police must not take the blame for the numerous adjournments that bedevil our court system.
