World Aids Day: Efforts being made to reduce PMTCT by 95%

The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mavis Ama Frimpong, says efforts are being made to reduce the Prevalence of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV by 95%.

She therefore advised those in the sexually active age to practise safe sex by using condoms or sticking to their partners.

Madam Frimpong said this when she addressed a durbar at the Koforidua Polyclinic to mark World AIDS Day.

She asked the youth to abstain from premarital sex, and be faithful to their partners since that is the best way of avoiding HIV contraction.

The Deputy Regional Minister implored the public to feel free to go to the hospitals for voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) to know their status and help Ghana to be an HIV-free country.

She stressed the need to save the unborn children to protect them against infection.

Madam Frimpong urged married couples to also practise family planning to help give birth to the number of children they can adequately cater for to reduce the national population growth.

She assured of government’s readiness to support in the fight against the HIV prevalence in the country.
