Search for Fishermen from Sunken S Korean Trawler Suspended Until Thursday

A search operation for missing South Korean fishermen whose trawler sank near Russia’s Far Eastern region has been suspended until tomorrow.

The Head of the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky’s Maritime Rescue Command called off the exercise due to unfavourable weather conditions.

A boat of the US Coast Guard is expected to join the operations tomorrow. Earlier, it was reported that 11 fishermen were pulled out of the water by a rescue team today.

The fishing trawler Oryong-501 sank yesterday in the Bering Sea off the coast of the Chukotka peninsula.

The crew consisted mostly of South Korean, Indonesian and Philippine citizens. 

Seven people, including one Russian national, have been rescued and are in good condition.

The rest of the crew is still missing.
