President Mahama Opens NAFAC With A Call To Protect Ghana's Cultural Heritage



President John Mahama, has intimated that modernity should not be allowed to destroy the Cultural norms and traditions handed over by the ancestors. 

He said gross disrespect for the elderly and lifestyle is making the cultural heritage lose its impact. 

President Mahama, was opening a Durbar to kickstart the National Festival of Arts and Culture, NAFAC at Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo region. 

NAFAC is celebrated Bi-annually to showcase Ghana's rich tradition and display of diverse culture.

Radio Ghana's Correspondent, Pascaline Adadevoh, who was with the president's entourage reports that Culture in Diversity came to play at this years NAFAC with all the ten regions of the country represented. 

This is the second time,the Brong Ahafo region is hosting the cultural festival. 

The week long activity will showcase the indigenous traditions of the various regions in the form of their food, way of dressing and dance.There will also be events to on how to improve the Art and Creative industry among others. 

President Mahama, said government is committed to a balance development of all the regions of the country.He stated that the strongest bond a country can ever have is diverse culture and hence the need to ensure its sustainability.
 
President Mahama, commended the National house of Chiefs for coming out with a code of succession which will ensure smooth transfer of kingship from one Royalty to the other devoid of litigation,bloodshed and needless deaths
                    
President Mahama, who had earlier joined the people of Kumasi in a Clean up exercise used the ocassion to speak on cleanliness. 

He said urbanisation is gradually eroding the communal labour spirit that existed in the past and this has culminated into the many preventable communal diseases. 

He called on all to be mindful of their environment and take part in the national sanitation day observed on the first Saturday of every month
              

The President of the Brong Ahafo regional house of Chiefs Pemampem Yaw Kag-berese,,thanked government for the ongoing  regional theatre complex which is near completion. 

He asked for the various tourists sites in the region to be rehabilitated with assistance from government. There is growing concern about the waning interest in the celebration of NAFAC. 

Stakeholders are urging government to allocate enough funds to its celebration to make it more attractive.
