Gov't determines to collaborate with South Korea in Agric development



Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur says government is determined to learn and collaborate with South Korea to enhance Ghana's development especially in agriculture. 

He said already, there are officials of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in South Korea to learn the latest technology and the Korean model of agriculture.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur said this when the South Korean Ambassador to Ghana, Lyeo Moon-Ki called on him at the Flagstaff House in Accra. 

The Vice President said government is working hard to bridge the trade imbalance between Ghana and South Korea.

He said though Ghana and South Korea have come a long way in their relations, his country is ready to share her
development experience with Ghana
. 
Vice President Amissah-Arthur said relations between the two countries has grown and urged the new ambassador to lift the level co-operation to a higher height.

He said Ghana will continue to learn lessons from Korea’s model of development since both countries have comparable experience.
 
According to him, there are many areas where the two countries could work together for the mutual benefit of their people.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur also expressed hope that two nations could improve relations through sports exchanges.

For his part, Mr Woom-Ki who replaces Mr Kyun Jea-min  assured Vice President Amissah - Arthur  of his country’s readiness to support Ghana in her developmental effort.
 
He also maintained that Korean will continue to be a good partner to Ghana and support the country in every aspect of her progress.

Trade volumes between Ghana and Korea rose to $395 million last year, with Korea importing cocoa and fish from Ghana and exporting spare parts and cars to Ghana.
   
In 2011, Korea designated Ghana and Nigeria as its two priority destinations in West Africa for its Overseas Development Assistance (ODA). 
    
The ODA grant from Korea to Ghana has doubled since 1991, amounting to $ 24.18 million from 1991 to 2014
    
Mr Woom-Ki stated that Ghana and Korea has a long standing relationship and as the new Ambassador for Korea, he would do his best to advance the relations to higher level thereby contributing his quota to the nation’s development.
    
He said international cooperation between the two countries has grown steadily since Korea first established diplomatic relations with Ghana in 1977.
    
He said Ghana and Korea have developed close ties in various fields of endeavour since both countries have similar historical background.
