GJA appeals to Parliament to expedite passage of Right to Information Bill

The President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Affail Monney, has once again appealed to Parliament to expedite the passage of the Right to Information Bill as a tool to empower journalists in their reportage.

At a Parliamentary leadership or media interaction with senior Journalists in Accra, Mr Monney welcomed Parliament's proposal for building a press core, as a way of building capacity and enhancing the quality of parliamentary reportage.

He said the media is ready to build stronger bridges that will benefit Parliament, the media and the nation as a whole.

Both the Majority Speaker, Alban Bagbin and Minority Speaker, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu encouraged journalists to specialise, especially in Parliamentary reporting so as to ensure that proceedings in the House are captured efficiently and accurately.

The Parliamentary leadership assured the media that the Right to Information Bill has not stalled; rather it has been overhauled and would be laid before the House soon.

The Order of business in the House is also being reviewed to allow the media to sit in committee meetings to understand and appreciate the magnitude of work that goes on there.
