Parliament Approves More Than Forty- Four Billion Cedis For Government's Spending For 2015

Parliament has passed the 2015 Appropriation Bill which gives government the legal backing to appropriate Forty-Four Billion, Twenty-One Million, Two Hundred and Sixty-Six Thousand Ghana Cedis from the Consolidated Fund and other sources for the purposes of financing all government operations for the 2015 financial year.

The Chairman of the Finance Committee, James Avedzi who presented the report of the Committee for the approval of the Bill said the passage of the Bill is in fulfillment of the Constitutional requirement giving the government the mandate to use money from the national purse.

The Ranking Member on the Finance Committee and MP for Old Tafo Dr.Anthony Akoto Osei wondered why in the budget statement, it was stated that government intends to spend about forty-one billion Ghana Cedis in 2015 but forty-four billion has been captured in the Appropriation Bill. 

He was also not happy about the use of grants to pay wages.
