Renowned TV and Radio Star Kwasi Kyei Darkwa to appear in Court today Ghanaian Radio and Television celebrity Kwasi Kyei Darkwa popularly known as KKD has spent another night in cell after police failed to arraigned him before court yesterday. KKD was over the weekend arrested and detained at the airport police station for allegedly raping a 19 year old girl. Though he admitted having sex with the girl, KKD denied raping her, insisting that it was consensual. He was to appear in Court yesterday but that did not happen. Information available to Radio Ghana says he might be taken to Court today. His counsel, Nana Asante Bedietuo, had earlier told reporters that he was waiting for his client to be taken to Court so that he could apply for his bail. Section 97 of the Criminal Offences Act categorises rape as a first degree felony punishable by a term of imprisonment not less than 5 years and not more than 25 years. Section 98 defines rape as carnal knowledge of a female of not less than sixteen years without her consent. It may be accomplished by force, fear, threats of harm or death, actual physical harm exerted on the victim or victim unable to give consent due to being intoxicated, laced, unconscious or asleep. GBC
