President Mahama to open National Job Summit next week

President Mahama will launch a National Job Summit next week in Accra.  

The summit has become necessary due to the growing unemployment situation among the youth which is a threat to global security, hence the need to find urgent solutions to the challenge of Ghana's sustainable livelihood.

Addressing the media ahead of the summit, Deputy Employment  and Labour Relations Minister,  Baba Jamal said  the inability of most educational institutions to churn out persons with the requisite skills to match the needs of the labour market is contributing to the persistent and growing trend of youth employment. 

The meeting will also provide the opportunity for key businesses to exhibit their sustainable business ideas in job creation, help in devising good strategies for job creation in the country and help Ghana achieve its goal of reaching full employment by the year 2030.

A key highlight of the summit will be the launch of the National Employment Policy, a document that gives strategic direction for job creation and also spells out the sectoral linkages for effective and efficient co-ordination of job opportunities for all Ghanaians.

About 1,500 local and foreign participants are expected to attend the meeting which is being organized by the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR), under the auspices of President John Mahama, and in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO).

The theme for the conference is ‘Inclusive growth through the creation of Productive Employment and Decent Work for all Ghanaians’.

The Deputy Minister for MELR, Hon. Baba Jamal said it was expected that at the end of the summit, ideas generated would inform government’s policy decisions in job creation and create high level links of collaboration with stakeholders to address technically-challenging problems in the area of job creation in Ghana.

The National Jobs Summit is scheduled for the 15th and 16th of April, 2015
