Mental Health needs greater attention from health partners

Civil Society activists in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region say Mental Health is an issue that needs greater attention from health partners in the region.

The activists identify lack of functional Psychiatric Units in the region as contributing to the problem. 

Gabriel Bernarku who speaks for the Brong Ahafo Network of NGO's spoke of the situation where instead of family members sending patients to health facilities, they resort to prayer camps where sometimes patients are made to fast as a way to facilitate their spiritual healing. 

In other instances, the patients are ostracised and left to die.
