It Is Time GBC Makes Contents Basically Ghanaian – Joyce Aryee Former Chief Executive of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Dr Joyce Aryee wants GBC to match content with quality, such that the Ghanaian identity and culture are not lost. According to her, competition and modernization have led to a compromise in quality and content. Dr Joyce Aryee's comments come at a time when the media landscape is flooded with lots of foreign content such as Telenovelas. Many have complained that this rapidly growing trend is destroying the indigenous Ghanaian culture of dressing, speech and the protection of morals. Dr Joyce Aryee who is also the CEO of the Salt and Light Ministries, will this Thursday deliver a lecture at GBC as part of the Corporation's 80th anniversary on the topic: “A milestone of Quality and Sound Broadcasting, promoting Ghanaian Heritage and aspirations in a changing world.” In a pre-lecture interview with Radio Ghana, Dr Aryee says it is time GBC as a public service broadcaster, makes its contents basically Ghanaian, irrespective of the competition or growing modernization.
