Ghana, Togo And Benin Meet Over Accra Flight Information Region


Ghana, Togo and Benin, have agreed in principle to resolve differences regarding their common airspace, the Accra Flight Information region. 

The decision was arrived at after President John Mahama at a close door meeting with President Yayi Boni of Benin and Togolese President Faure Gnassingbe at the Peduase lodge near Aburi. 

Togo and Benin threatened to pull out from the Accra Flight Information region due to some misunderstanding with revenue issues. 
  
Briefing the media after the meeting, President Mahama said the meeting centred on a common flight information region within the three countries.
   
He said although it was established in 1945, it had not been effective enough to cater for the aviation demands of the three countries and the meeting was therefore to fashion out measures to invigorate it.
   
President Mahama said Ministers of Transport and other relevant stakeholders of the three countries would be meeting next Tuesday, after which the outcome would be endorsed by the heads of state to commence work.
   
He said the meeting also discussed resource sharing and capacity building among the three countries to step up their performance and attract more investors that realm.
  
President Mahama said the safety of aviation sector is paramount among the three countries and they would pursue it to a logical conclusion.
   
He said they also discussed ways of concretising their agreements and assert themselves against the negative activities of other aviation service providers.
 
The Presidents; Faure Gnassingbe of Togo and Dr Thomas Yayi Boni of Togo who arrived in Ghana on Wednesday morning have since returned to their various countries.
