Tigo celebrates Mothers’ Day with Ridge Hospital

Tigo, a telecommunication company, took part in this year’s Mothers' Day celebration and presented “His and Hers Hampers” to mothers who delivered at the Ridge Hospital in Accra on May 10.

The company also shared in the intimate moments between mothers and their new borns, by documenting the precious moments through photos of their first few hours.

“From the moment they are born with their vernix coated skin, blinking eyes, and pay-attention-to-me cries, babies do mesmerize us and for the CSR team at Tigo, sharing in the first few hours of mother and baby bonding was priceless”, a statement from the company said.

The midwife in-charge of the Maternity Unit, Ms Philis Ashun, was grateful for the gifts for the babies, their mothers and the health workers.

Some first time mothers who recounted their experiences, described the feeling of life-taking form inside them, the physical and emotional changes, and the anticipation of bringing forth a new life to giving birth as wonderful.

Several of the women had already been given their babies the traditional Sunday names based on their ethnic tribe and gender - Akosua for females, and Akwasi for males in the Akan tribe.

Their real names will be revealed at various traditional ceremonies in a few weeks.
