Nana Akufo-Addo Appeals For Calm In NPP As He Cuts Short European Tour

The Flagbearer of the NPP for the 2016 Presidential election, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has called for calm among members of the party following the death of the Upper East Regional Chairman of the Party, Adams Mahama. 

He said members of the party must give the police the space to investigate the matter thoroughly. 

Nana Addo who is currently on a tour of Europe said he will cut short his trip and return home on Friday to mourn with the bereaved family and the party.

Meanwhile, the Upper East Regional Police PRO, ASP Thomas Agbanyo says investigations are underway to apprehend the second suspect involved in the killing of the NPP Regional Chairman, Adams Mahama.  

Speaking to Radio Ghana, he said the Police are surprised about the spate of violent attacks following the death of Mr Mahama. 

ASP Agbanyo also confirmed a mob attack on the vehicle of the Second Regional Vice Chairman, Osman Kunko Naab who went to sympathize with the bereaved family. 

A leading member of the NPP, Reverend Professor Mike Ocquaye has expressed shock at the acid attack and death of the Upper East Regional Chairman of the Party, Adams Mahama. 

The Reverend Professor Ocquaye who spoke to Radio Ghana said the party will take a firm decision on the perpetrators of this heinous act and bring them to book in order to deter others from doing so.

Our correspondent who is at the NPP Headquarters in Accra, Yaw Amirikah says the party leadership is in a meeting to decide on the way forward following the Upper East Regional Chairman's murder.  

He said party supporters matched to the Headquarters to demand answers from the leadership as to why the Upper East Regional Chairman should be killed in cold blood. 

There was heavy police presence. 

In a related development, a Former Executive Member of the NPP, in the Greater Accra Region, Michael Ampong says he is not surprised about the acid attack on the Upper East Regional Chairman of the Party, because he has personally been attacked five times recently. 

Mr Ampong said he is dumbfounded about the death of Adams Mahama. 

He said the NPP which claims to be a party of dialogue is descending into a military junta. 

Adding his voice to the chorus of condemnations, the General Secretary of the PNC, Bernard Mornah said the situation is a dent on democracy. 

He questioned why in this age where the culture of dialogue is being promoted this violence is being perpetrated. 

Mr Mornah noted that it is a criminal offence which must be thoroughly investigated and the culprits brought to book. 

He expressed his party’s condolence to the bereaved family for the loss.
