“Emulate the man Dr. Sir P V Obeng” - Dr. Kwame Saarah Mensah The Council Chairman of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, Dr. Kwame Saarah Mensah says the late Dr. Paul Victor Obeng demonstrated a sterling determination to succeed and exhibited a new way of doing politics to achieve prosperity and dignity for the people. He said late P. V. Obeng’s style of approaching things in governance revealed itself long before he ascended to the highest level of politics in the country. Dr. Mensah indicated that the late P.V Obeng’s peaceful and inclusive disposition, his academic background among others has irreversibly shaped his outlook on politics. Mr. Saarah Mensah was speaking at the first P. V. Obeng Memorial Lecture on the topic “The Man P. V. Obeng”. It was organized in Tema by the KNUST Alumini Association, Tema Chapter. The late former Chairman of the National Development Planning Committee, Dr. P. V. Obeng, died on May17 2014 at the LEKMA Hospital after he collapsed at a filling station on the Spintex Road. He was interred at Adansi Akrokerri, his hometown. Dr. Saarah Mensah noted that during his period of influence as a statesman, Dr. Sir P. V. Obeng provided the world with a unique insight into the sterling qualities of a modest, humble and exemplary leader. He added that both at home and work, the late Dr. Sir P. V. Obeng preached peace and laid a clear vision for the country’s political and economic course. According to him, the late Dr. Sir P. V. Obeng led a number of government initiatives that propelled the investment landscape of the country. Dr. Saarah Mensha charged the citizenry to uphold and emulate the exemplary deeds of the late Dr. Sir P. V, which constitutes devotion and honour to public service. The Former Minister of Finance under the NPP, Yaw Osafo Marfo also described Dr. P. V. Obeng as a man of humility and generosity, who demonstrated that politics is a call and duty to serve the nation. GBC
