Ghana Medical Association Calls Off Strike

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has decided to suspend its three week old strike with effect from Monday. 

The GMA has therefore appealed to all its members to restore full services effective 8: 00 am (local time) on the said date. 

A statement issued by the Association and jointly signed by its President Dr Kwabena Opoku Adusei and General Secretary Dr Frank Serebour however said negotiations with government on their conditions of service will continue.  

According to the GMA the decision follows appeals from members of the public, the clergy, and the National House of Chiefs. 

Public sector doctors have been on strike for about three weeks now over codified conditions of service.  

The strike also led to the suspension of Out-Patients Department and emergency care service.
