Stakeholders worried over environmental degradation of SADA zone

Stakeholders in the tourism industry are worried over increased degradation of the savannah ecological zone.

They are concerned that the indiscriminate felling of trees and bush burning is destroying the unique environmental features of the zone and threatening the tourism potential of the area. 

Stakeholders fear that if the practice goes on unchecked, it could negatively affect the tourism industry and make the people of the area poorer. 

Speaking at the first SADA zone meeting on tourism, culture and the creative arts, the Director of Social Development at SADA, Dr Chris Anab noted that the region has great potential in the tourism and creative arts sector and called for concerted efforts to protect the environment. 

The Acting Northern Regional Manager of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Alexander Nketia, said the Ministry is determined to introduce paragliding on the Gambaga Encampment. 

Mr Nketia gave the assurance that the necessary environmental impact assessment will be conducted to prevent environmental degradation.
