BECE gets to smooth start in Ashanti Region


The Basic Education Certification Examination (BECE) got to a smooth start in Ashanti Region with no reported incident from any of the centres on the first day.

A total of 91,311 candidates made up of 46,848 boys and 44,526 girls are writing the examination across 349 centres in the region.

The Regional Minister, Mr. John Alexander Ackon, and the Regional Education Director, Mrs. Mary Owusu-Akyaw, jointly toured some of the places in the Kumasi metropolis including the Saint Louis Senior High School (SHS) and Prempeh College, to see for themselves how things were going.

They encouraged the candidates to have self-believe, remain calm and refuse to panic.

Mr. Ackon cautioned them against any temptation to cheat.

For her part, Mrs. Owusu-Akyaw, urged the invigilators to be diligent and vigilant to protect the integrity of the examination.

Mr. Joe Kwabena Koranteng, the Head of Examination Inspection of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) in the Region, said arrangements are in place for a more successful examination.

According to him,  adequate security arrangements had been put in place to check malpractices.
