Police Assistants receive mountain bicycles for patrol


Forty-four mountain bicycles have been presented to personnel of the Community Police Assistants under the Youth Employment Agency in the Wa Municipality. 

The cycles are expected to facilitate their movements as they patrol in the communities along motorable and immotorable routes. 

The Upper West Regional Minster who handed over the bicycles to the municipal office of the YEA for distribution tasked the CPAs to be disciplined and hardworking. 

The Youth Employment Agency which formally started operation in 2010 has recruited over one thousand, six hundred people in the Upper West Region alone. 

Under models such as Youth in Security, Youth in Paid Internship and Youth in Health, it hopes to recruit one thousand four hundred more for the region. 

To assist them in the discharge of their duties, the Authority has presented bicycles to some of its recruits. 

In the Wa Municipality, personnel from the Community Police Assistants division have received forty bicycles out of a total of one hundred and eighty seven to be distributed across the region. 

Presenting the cycles, the Regional Minister Alhaji Amidu Sulemani urged the personnel to work hard and avoid taking undue advantage of residents as a result of their uniforms.

The Regional Director of the YEA, Saani Nurudeen explained that the enactment of the Youth Policy in 2014 has equipped the Authority financially to pay allowances of personnel on time. 

He said the presentation of the bicycles which the first of its kind is enough evidence that there will be no issues of unpaid allowances at the end of each month.

A Senior Colleague of the CPAs, Dramani Taufique commended the YEA for the bicycle initiative while stating that it will enhance the performance of their duties.

The Wa Municipal Chief Executive Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha said the assembly is working assiduously to promote security in the municipality. 

He said watch dog groups and security task forces have been formed in several communities in the municipality to check crime and protect residents.
