GPHA: Sues Ogbamey and its publisher for contempt A former Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Ben Owusu Mensah, is suing the former Managing Editor of the defunct Gye Nyame Concord newspaper, Alfred Ogbamey and its publisher for contempt for failing to comply with the orders of a High Court since 2014. In 2006, Mr Ogbamey published alleged libelous stories against Mr Mensah who was then at post and GHAPOHA over an allegation that he had inflated the cost of a contract by two million dollars. Mr Mensah therefore brought a defamation suit against Mr Ogbamey who is currently the Head of Public Relations at the Ghana Gas Company. As the hearing of the defamation suit was ongoing, Mr Ogbamey pleaded for an out of court settlement which was agreed upon by the plaintiff. In view of this, the parties entered into terms of settlement adopted by the High Court presided over by Justice Kwabena Asuman-Adu as consent judgement in 2014. Part of the of terms agreed on was for Mr Ogbamey to render an unqualified apology through the media to Mr Mensah and the Ports Authority for the defamatory comments made against them. The plaintiff however claim that this has not been complied with. GBC
