Kofi Annan congratulates Ghana’s electoral body A former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, has congratulated the Electoral Commission, its staff and the people of Ghana for conducting a good election, last Wednesday (December 7). In a statement, Mr Annan applauded the support and the diligence of the national and international electoral observers. He is calling on the candidates, their parties and their supporters to remain calm until the announcement of the final results by the Electoral Commission. He said there is no reason for incitement. Again in the spirit of democracy, Mr Annan calls on the defeated candidates to concede as quickly as possible to defuse tensions and allay uncertainties. He also congratulated the other five candidates who have already done so in light of the preliminary results and clear trends. He said the people of Ghana are waiting and watching, let’s not disappoint them. GBC
