US announces additional $92m in aid of Boko Haram victims

The US has announced an additional 92 million dollars in aid for people affected by the Boko Haram insurgency and food insecurity in northeastern Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin region.
 
It follows warnings from the UN that 120 thousand people are at risk of dying from starvation in northeastern Nigeria as a result of the conflict.

The latest aid brings the US contribution to 291 million dollars.
 
The money will go to the UN and NGOs to provide food, water, and shelter and health services.
  
The US says the Boko Haram insurgency has left six point four million people in need of emergency food assistance and displaced two point six million people.
