Drivers urged to be extra careful during harmattan

A Senior Meteorologist at the Ghana Meteorological Agency, Michael Padi, has asked drivers to be extra careful with the intensity of the harmattan haze. 

Mr Padi said poor visibility during the harmattan can cause accidents and called on drivers to be extra careful on the roads. 

Mr. Padi explained to journalists in Accra that the weather systems that precede the dry harmattan winds has intensified and high pressure systems and dust have also intensified over North Africa.

He said around this time, rainfall is unlikely.

He cautioned fishermen to be extra careful during fishing activities, and urged the public, especially those in the north, to ensure good ventilation, so as to avoid diseases associated with the harmattan.

He advised all to wear appropriate clothing to avoid catching colds.

Mr Padi said the dryness of the weather increases the risk of fire out-breaks and urged the public to adhere to fire safety precautions.
