Hoteliers Association to build members capacity through training

The Ghana Hotels Association says it is going to roll out several training programs to provide required capacity to their hoteliers. 

This initiative is to have trained personnel who will merit international standards and offer quality service delivery to visitors. 

The president of the association, Herbert Acquaye said this at the second Ghana Hotels Association awards in Accra. 

He said the move is also to boost tourism to become a leading sector of the Ghanaian economy. 

He therefore charged the hoteliers to work hard to enhance the progress of the in industry.

The award was structured into three categories. 

Category A comprised awards for budget, one star and two star hotels, category B comprised awards for three to five and category C, special awards special awards conferred on individuals by the National office and National Executive Council. 

Accra city hotel was adjudged the four star hotel of the year. 

The other recipients of the awards included Anita hotel, three-star hotel of the year, sunlodge hotel, two-star hotel of the year and Tap hotel, one star hotel of the year. 

This year's event which was on the theme "Enhancing Hotel Operations Through Information and Communication Technology gave 54 competitive and honorary awards to individuals and organizations who have made immense contribution to the growth of the tourism industry. 

The President of the association, Herbert encouraged the entire fraternity to put tremendous efforts for a successful 2017. 

He also commended the organizers for a good work done despite the challenges the industry faces.

Labadi beach hotel and Planters lodge and spa won the hotel kitchen of the year, and Kempinki adjudged the hosting  hotel for 2017. 

Other competitive awards were Hotelier of the year, John Kufuor and outstanding contribution of the year, George Acquah
