Prof. Attafuah Appointed Head of National Identification Authority

A criminologist, Prof. Ken Agyeman Attafuah had been appointed as the Acting Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA).

Prof Attafuah's appointment comes along with those being made by president Nana Akufo-Addo in the various public institutions.
 
Professor Ken Attafuah is a former deputy chair of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), and until this appointment the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Central University.

His appointment comes at a time when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has indicated its commitment to rolling out a comprehensive national identification system, after a broad consultative meeting on the project earlier this week, chaired by Vice President, Dr Mahamamudu Bawumia.

The NPP had promised in last year’s elections to embark on a National Identification project that would see every Ghanaian registering for accurate data on  citizens.

Prof. Ken Agyeman Attafuah will become the substantive head of the NIA after a newly constituted NIA governing council approves his appointment in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
