Defense Minister Asks African Country To Develop Military Into Defense Industry


The Minister of Defense, Dominic Nitiwul, on Tuesday called on Africa military heads to focus on the development of the military into a defence industry.

“Conventional wars in the world are dwindling in recent times so the area of defense industry needs to be looked at to enhance the socio-economic development of the Military,” he said.

Mr. Nitiwul was speaking during a visit by a 55-man delegation from the National Defense College of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on a study tour to Ghana.  

Every year a select number of participants are chosen from the college to take part in the study tour of various countries from the ranks of colonels who are equipped with skills on strategic studies and related issues.

The arms industry, also known as the defense industry, is a global industry responsible for the manufacturing and sales of weapons and military technology.

The industries will supply military kit, boots, clothing, military watches and surveillance equipment to the Military.

Mr. Nitiwul commended the team for choosing Ghana as their study ground to learn from her best practices in the mining industry and other areas of interest.

He said Ghana and Nigeria had always shared intelligence and ideas in the area of military defense and other bilateral relations.

Air Commodore B. A. Adebayo, the Leader of the Delegation, commended the Ghana Armed Forces for their support since the team arrived in the country.

He said the participants were in the country to study Ghana’s mining industry and its role in national development.
