MPs react to 2017 Budget Statement

Following the presentation of the budget by the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori Atta, Radio Ghana spoke to some Members of Parliament (MPs) on their impressions of the financial policy of government. 

The MP for Ofoase – Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, says government's prime focus is to block leakages in the bureaucracies that come with development. 

The MP for Ellembelle, and former Energy Minister, Emmanuel Buah said the budget has vindicated the Mahama government's interventions in the energy sector. 

Next is the MP for Atwima-Nwabiagya South, Emmanuel Gyei Anhwere. For him, the Minister was spot on in beefing up the agricultural sector as the focal point for the nation’s industrial drive.

A former Deputy Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson described the budget as deceptive.
He said government was selective on tax cuts.

MP for Kwadaso, Dr. Samiu Nuamah said the government has silenced its critics by making allocations for its campaign promises.

The Minority Chief Whip, Alhaji Mohammed-Mubarack Muntaka expressed shock at the silence of the budget on the National Health Insurance Scheme and other tax reliefs promised by government.
