Help reduce road accidents -  MTTD

The Motor Traffic and Transport Division, MTTD, of the Police Service has admitted that the country has not given much attention to road carnage over the years.

The situation according to the Department is worrying as many die through road accidents.

Speaking on GBC’s ‘Behind The News,’ Public Relations Officer of the MTTD, Chief Inspector Simon Tenku, attributed most of the accidents on the roads to human factors. 
 
He called on relevant stakeholders to help reduce the alarming and worrying road carnage.
  
Contributing to the programme, the Deputy Executive Director in charge of Planning at the National Road Safety Commission, David Adonteng, said it is time Ghana moved from manual police traffic management to ICT traffic management.

This will promote the strict enforcement and compliance of the road safety law, to reduce the recurring road accidents. 

Mr. Adonteng urged government to equip the police service adequately to execute its mandate especially on the roads.

Meanwhile, Acting Deputy General Secretary of the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council, Andrew Kwesi Kwakye said the union will continue to engage drivers on road safety measures. 

He noted that it is unfortunate that despite all the countless education carried out over the years on road safety, accidents are still on the increase.
 
Mr. Kwakye appealed to government and its road safety partners to come up with a new approach to tackle the disturbing situation.
