Police say 261 vehicular accidents recorded from March 5 – 11

The Ghana Police Service has revealed that from the 5th to 11th of this month, 261 vehicular accidents have been recorded.
 
Speaking at a workshop by the Association of Certified Driving Instructors of Ghana, ACDIG, DSP Alexander Obeng of the MTTD said seventy- six pedestrians were hit with 292 passengers injured and 47 died during this period.

Meanwhile, the spate of road accidents and loss of precious lives is in the news again with startling revelations. 

A number of questions are being asked as to whether the regulatory agencies such as the DVLA, Road Safety Commission, MTTD, and Urban Roads are doing their work efficiently. 

Deputy Director In Charge of Public Affairs of DVLA, Kwaku Darko Afari believes everybody needs to observe the right standards to ensure safety on the roads. 

He talked about reforms carried out by DVLA. 

On foreign heavy duty drivers and the regulation of their behaviour on the roads, Mr Afari said that is the responsibility of the DVLA and the National Road Safety Commission. 

He however appealed to transport owners to make sure their vehicles are road worthy before they release them to drivers to operate.

Mr. Afari said the DVLA is rolling out a new mobile application to regulate safety on the road.
