President Akufo-Addo lays foundation stone for new French embassy

President Akufo-Addo has assured foreign investors that their interest will be protected.

Laying the foundation stone for the construction of a new French Embassy, President Akufo-Addo was grateful to France for its continuous support in terms of security to the country and Africa. 

The French Embassy in Ghana became a subject of controversy following the relocation of the seat of government from the Osu Castle to the Jubilee House. 

There were opinions at the time that proximity of the Embassy poses security threat and needed to be relocated.

The event coincided with sixty years of French bilateral relations with Ghana in the areas of health, water, agriculture and the telecommunication industry. 

Currently France has over 170 projects in Ghana. 

President Akufo-Addo was hopeful that the construction of the new Embassy will further deepen bilateral relations between the two countries.

He said government recognises the investments made by France and assured them of the protection of their investments. 

The French Ambassador to Ghana, Francois Pujulas, said the construction of the Embassy symbolises the partnership between Ghana and France. 

The New French Embassy in Ghana is expected to be completed within 18 months. It is located on the same compound of the Ambassador's residence closer to the American Embassy.
