A/R: Police restore calm to RCC after forceful eviction of new Coordinator Calm has been restored to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) offices hours after a group of well-built men popularly known as ‘macho’ men today forcibly evicted the new Regional Security Coordinator, George Adjei, from his office. Mr. Adjei assumed duty last Tuesday as the new Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator. A staff of the RCC who briefed GBC’s Radio Ghana on grounds of anonymity, said the incident happened in the absence of the Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah who was on an official assignment in Accra. The source said the macho men, numbering about 60, arrived at the Regional Administration at about 10 am in three Sprinter buses with others on motor bikes chanting war songs and this disrupted official work. He said upon entering the Regional Administration premises, the men went straight to the office of the Regional Security Coordinator to evict him but a Policeman who was on duty rescued the Security Head. Mr. Adjei was then sent to the Regional Police Command for safety before reinforcement was commandeered from the Regional Police Command to restore calm. The source said it was the Commander of the Police reinforcement team who was able to persuade the intruders to leave the premises. The source said the macho men questioned the rationale for bringing someone all the way from Accra to coordinate security issues in the Ashanti Region when there are capable hands available to do the job.
