UPDATE: Bunkpurugu curfew time renewed

The Minister for the Interior has on the advice of the Northern Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument renewed the curfew on Bunkpurugu from 8pm to 6am effective today. 

Government continues to urge chiefs, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them.

They must use non-violent means and channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area.

Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in Bunkpurugu and surrounding areas from carrying ammunition or any offensive weapon. 

Any person found with ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.
