The former Coordinating Secretary of the Ghana National Union of Technical Students(GNUTS), Kwame Amponsah Manu says the number of female students entering the various Technical Universities in the Country is nothing to write home about. 

He has consequently stressed the need to encourage women to  take up technical and vocational education in the technical universities,since that could brighten the future of the country. 

Kwame Amponsah made this assertion when he addressed the launch the 2017 SRC/GNUTS Women's Week Celebration at the Sunyani Technical University(STU) in the Brong-Ahafo Region. 

This year's SRC,GNUTS/Women's Week Celebration is on the theme"The impact of Gender parity in Technical education in Ghana".  

The Week is also focusing on building the inner capability of female students to pursue higher technical education and motivating women to fight for parity with men in the workplace. 

The launching of the week long celebration was well attended by lecturers, SRC Executives and students of STU. 

In his address, Kwame Amponsah said, the Country cannot continue to be producing male technical graduates in the tertiary education system. He said the Country lacks people who posses hands on technical skills to power the the turbine of growth in the Country. 

He continued that, why are women not encouraged to make technical and vocational programs their courses of choice when they have been making progress in the main stream universities is a mystery. 

Mr. Manu  stressed that women are sorely needed in the Technical and vocational realm since that holds the future of the country.

Kwame Amponsah Manu then entreated Students to unite with the SRC for action. 

For his part, the SRC president of the Sunyani Technical University, Owusu Agyekum said, the SRC has embarked on a project to among others rehabilitate the School hostel at an estimated cost of 7000 Ghana Cedis. 

Owusu Agyekum continued that the SRC is also working with the School management to provide five thousand chairs for the university.

The STU SRC president Owusu Agyekum entreated his fellow students to desist from exam malpractices, saying they should have enough time for their books to guarantee success in life.  

The SRC Executives used the occasion to donate two walking crutches, valued at 5000 Ghana cedis, to two disabled students in the university.
