No upward adjustment in transport fares- STC The Inter-City STC fares have not been increased, despite the 15 per cent increment in transport fares. According to the station Manager of the Tudu branch Hope kofi Klu, the State Transport Corporation will continue to charge the old fares because the STC is focused on service delivery than making profits. Mr. Kofi Klu made this known when Radio Ghana visited the STC and other major bus terminals ahead of the expected mass travelling for the Easter festivities. This has infuriated the Ghana Private Road Transport Union GPRTU who is accusing the Inter-City STC of deliberately charging lower fares to take away customers. The Secretary for the Tudu branch of the GPRTU Michael Aborchie says the STC has to charge the approved fares in order to maintain the peace and harmony that has existed between the two parties over the years. The scene at both bus terminals were contrasting. The Inter-City STC bus terminal at Tudu was filled with passengers booking tickets with more than 30 buses already dispatched to various destinations in the Volta and Eastern regions, at the time Radio Ghana arrived. The buses at the GPRTU terminal in the same area were virtually empty with drivers calling for passengers who never came. The secretary for the GPRTU Tudu branch Michael Aborchie attributes the absence of passengers to the operations of the STC. In a reaction, the Station manager of the Inter-City STC in the same area says the move is a business strategy to help maintain their customers, although he admitted that the fares may go up in the future. Both parties have however, assured the public of a secured journey to their destinations during the festive season and beyond. GBC
