Media Practitioners to wear red today as a sign of disapproval of illegal mining  

Media practitioners across the country will today wear red as a sign of their disapproval of illicit mining popularly known as. 

This was revealed by Ken Ashigbey, Managing Director of the Graphic Group of Communications and member of the Media Coalition against Galamsey. 

He was hopeful the police and immigration authorities will deal with foreigners who are engaged in the galamsey. 

All concerned Ghanaians are encouraged to join the campaign by wearing red and move from market to market and from one area to the other and campaign for support against galamsey.

Meanwhile about 400 earth-moving equipment have been voluntarily withdrawn from illegal small-scale mining sites across the country. 

Lands and Natural Resources Minister, John Peter Amewu, is currently undertaking a review tour of all galamsey sites in the country in the Eastern, Western and Central Regions, after which he will take a definitive decision on the next line of action. 

According to the Minister, government will continue to clamp down on the stone hearted galamsey operators.
