Volta Regional House of Chiefs suspends Paramount Chiefs and Queen Mothers of Nkonya/Alavanyo indefinitely The Volta Regional House of Chiefs has indefinitely suspended the Paramount Chiefs and Queen Mothers of Nkonya and Alavanyo for their inability to maintain peace in the two traditional areas. The two areas have been at each other’s neck for almost a hundred years over a piece of land with the most recent one leading to the death of two people with many others injured. The Nkonya and Alavanyo chiefs and queens have also been stripped off any privileges they enjoy including financial benefits until a peaceful solution is attained and the issue is resolved. It is however unclear how the suspension will bring closure to this protracted conflict. Meanwhile, ADR Experts believe the suspensions would not solve the problem. Conflict resolution and mediation Expert, Austin Gammey says the Volta Regional House of Chiefs are aware that the suspension may pose all sorts of challenges to the resolution of the conflict. GBC
