Government warns illegal miners against sending excavators back to sites

The Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Frimpong Boateng has cautioned illegal miners who have moved their equipment from site not to under estimate the action by the government to eliminate the galamsey menace. 

He said any equipment found on site henceforth will be confiscated.  

The Minister who spoke in support of Red Friday, Instituted by the Media Coalition against Galamsey said the government is committed to addressing the issue since the whole country abhors the practice.  

Meanwhile, Ghanaian Journalists are observing April 21 as Red Friday. This is to show their anger against illegal mining also known as galamsey.  

President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Affail Monney, said members will not rest until the fight against galamsey is won.

In a related development, the Bishop of the Sekondi Diocese of the Methodist Church, Rt Rev De-Graft Brace has expressed optimism about the way government has taken up the fight against illegal mining which is widespread in the Western Region. 

He said the menace is as a result of indiscipline, self-centredness and greed of a few people in society which is affecting the entire nation in view of the pollution of water bodies, and large farmlands. 

Rt Rev Brace, said this at the 56th Annual synod of the Sekondi Diocese of the Methodist Church in Sekondi in the Western Region.
