New Juaben Assembly Ready For "One-District-One-Factory" Policy

The New Juaben Municipal Assembly is ready for the government’s "One-District-One-Factory" policy to take off to provide employment for the teeming youth. 

This was made known by the Municipal Chief Executive of the New Juaben Municipal Assembly, Comfort Asante during an inspection of the defunct MaaGrace Garment Industry Limited in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital. 

The company, which was in the garment manufacturing business, collapsed about ten years ago, rendering about 400 employees of the company, jobless. 

Mrs. Asante said, it is in light of this that the New Juaben Municipal Assembly has proposed to the "One- District-One-Factory" secretariat to factor the company unto the policy. 

This according to her will revive it and provide employment for the youth. She said, the factory had over 700 industrial machines, with most of them still in good condition and will cut down on cost when the company is revived, since such materials are already in place. 

She again said, there will be ready market for the products since they will provide for schools and the security agencies among others in the municipality. 

In a telephone interview with  the Proprietress of the company, Comfort Owusu Agyemang pleaded with the government to help revive the company by partnering it  since it will help to a large extent provide employment for about one thousand, 200 people, especially the youth in the Municipality. 

She said, before the collapse of the company, it competed favorably with other such companies all over the world and asked the government to give the company a second chance by incorporating it into the policy. 

Mrs. Owusu Agyemang opined that since it is capital intensive venture, it will be very difficult for an individual to revive the company. 

She therefore appealed to the government to take over the company by finding partners to run it effectively. 

The Garment Industry Limited, which was established under the John Agyekum Kufuor administration in the early 2000s, collapsed about ten years ago and is one of the two industries identified by the New Juaben Municipal Assembly for the government’s "One-District-One-Factory" policy.
