The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, KMA, has constituted a team of experts to vet all structures within the city suspected to be weak thereby posing danger to life and property. The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Osei Assibey Antwi, who made this known to the GBC in Kumasi, explained that the Team will carry out structural integrity test on the identified facilities to determine whether or not those structures should be demolished. He said the Team involves staff form the KMA, the National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO, and engineers. The exercise has been occasioned by a recent near collapse of a one-storey commercial building at Dunkirk due to week pillars. The Assembly, working closely with the NADMO, security services among other partners, swiftly intervened to evacuate pupils and staff of the nearby Queen Elizabeth The Second Day Care as well as workers of a chain of stores on the Subin River before pulling down that weak building to save passers-by, commuters, shoppers and storekeepers. The Metro Chief Executive noted also that another five-storey commercial building located near the Asokwa Police Divisional Headquarters is to be vetted by the Team following public concerns about its strength.
