GBC to ensure transparency and accountability in TV Licence collection

The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), has identified efficient, transparent and accountable structures to ensure smooth and effortless payment by all television viewing public. 

The collecting structures are both manual and electronic, which provides broader access to multiple payment channels for various and diverse publics. 

According to the Management, measures are in place to transparency and accountability in the collecting process.

PRESS RELEASE 

Accra, January 9, 2018 Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) appreciates the public  concerns about the revival of the Television Licence Fees. The TV Licensing Act, 1966 (NLCD 89) as amended established the collection of TV Licence fees in order to fund public service broadcast and the activities of the national broadcaster.

It is this same law that 

mandates GBC to collect the fees. 

The object of the Corporation since its inception has been to undertake Sound, Commercial and Television broadcasts, to prepare in the field of culture, education, information and      entertainment programmes reflecting national progress and aspirations.

GBC’s mandate has been over the years to broadcast programmes prepared in the main Ghanaian languages and in English and other foreign languages as the Corporation may determine. 

It is for these reasons that the TV Licensing Act, 1966 (NLCD 89) as amended established the collection of TV License fees to fund our activities. 

As the collecting authority of the Licence fees, GBC has identified efficient, transparent and accountable structures to ensure smooth and effortless payment by all television viewing public. 

The collecting structures are both manual and electronic, which provides broader access to multiple payment channels for our various and our diverse publics.

We want to assure the public that there is transparency in the collection 

Management of GBC encourages all TV viewing public to endeavor to pay their TV Licence fees as part of their civic responsibilities.

We want to assure the general public that public prosecution would only be the last option to be resorted to.
