Brazil army ordered to take over security in violent Rio de Janeiro

Brazil’s Senate President Eunício de Oliveira, has confirmed that the federal government will intervene to improve security in the state of Rio de Janeiro, which has been struggling to contain a wave of violence.

Mr Oliveira, said the federal government will name an Army General to oversee Rio de Janeiro’s security forces including the police, the fire department and the state’s intelligence department.
