Parliament to probe mass failure of students at Ghana School of Law

A member of the subsidiary legislation Committee of parliament, Mohammed Sheidu, says it is worrying and unprecedented in the history of legal education for 80 percent of Law students to fail their entrance examinations. 

He said the committee is in the process of resolving issues regarding entrance examinations when this massive failure of students came up. 

Speaking on GBC’s “Behind The News,” Mr Sheidu said investigations will be conducted to find out the cause of the mass failure. 

Meanwhile, the MP for Akatsi south and Deputy Chairman of the subsidiary legislation committee, Benard Ahiafor, says allegations being made will not help the situation. 

He said some students are bound to pass and fail in every examination. 

He therefore urged the aggrieved students to tackle the issue from the grassroots.

A Private Legal Practitioner and PRO of the Ghana Bar Association, Yaa Jacobu, said it is unfortunate such a large number of students failed to pass the entrance examinations of the Ghana School of Law.

In a related development, the Students Representative Council, SRC, of the Ghana School of Law has called for the immediate scrapping of the Independent Examination Board, IEB, of the school. 

Speaking to the media at a news conference in Accra on Wednesday, its President Samuel Gyamfi blamed the board for the challenges that students go through with regard to sitting for examination and marking of scripts.
