A-G's Office To Ensure Effective Prosecution Of Cases Despite Staff Constraint

Attorney General (A-G) and Minister of Justice Gloria Akuffo, says her office will work and prosecute all cases despite the staff constraint.  

She said the A-G's office needs about six hundred lawyers to effectively prosecute cases. The office, she indicated is currently working with half of the number. 

Inaugurating the nine member board for the Economic and Organised Crime Office, EOCO, Madam Akuffo said financial clearance by government for the A-G's office to recruit 50 lawyers is woefully inadequate.  

She said her office has received over two hundred applications and is to employ only 50. 

On the work of EOCO, Madam Akuffo said a visit to some of the offices of EOCO in the regions, revealed that they are in dire need of logistics and staff to effectively execute their mandate.  

She charged the Board to work within the constraints and formulate policies that will deal with modern day crime.

The Board Chairman of EOCO and a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Stephen Alan Brobbey said modern day crime especially internet fraud has become the order of the day, and assured the Minister, of the Board's commitment to come out with right policies to deal with it.
