Villagers flee as India, Pakistan trade heavy border fire

Hundreds of residents have fled their homes along the India and Pakistan border following an escalation of cross-border attacks.

The Deputy Commissioner of Northern Baramulla district, Nasir Ahmad Naqash said ceasefire violations have intensified in the Uri sector for the first time in 15 years.
 
The area has been largely peaceful since the 2003 truce signed by the nuclear-armed South Asian rivals.
