Call for review of Ghana’s Youth Development Policy

The Acting Chief Executive of the Millennium Development Authority, MiDA, Martin Eson-Benjamin, has recommended a constant re-examination of the country’s National Youth Development policies such that they encourage sacrifice and volunteerism. 

He said if this is done, it will vindicate one of the National Youth Policy’s objectives of inculcating a strong sense of self-reliance, patriotism, nationalism and volunteerism. 

Mr. Eson-Benjamin was speaking at a lecture organised by the Opoku Ware Old Boys’ Association, in Kumasi. 

The annual lecture was in honour of the first three illustrious Headmasters of the School, Reverend Father Burgess, Leo Kalinauckas and Anthony Adu-Amankwaa. 

Mr. Eson-Benjamin said some attempts were made in the past to organize the youth to sacrifice their time and energies towards nation building. However, youth policies appear to have steered off clear basic principles. 

He noted that youth groups like the Ghana Young Pioneers Movement, YMCA, YWCA, Boys and Girls Scout Movements among others have lost their momentum and the capacity to inculcate the spirit of voluntarism and patriotism in the youth.
