Government to blacklist Cocoa cultivated from Forest reserves

Cocoa produced from the country's forest reserves is to be blacklisted not only in Ghana but on the international market.

The new policy which will soon be rolled out is aimed at protecting and preserving the country's Forest reserves.

The Chief Planning Officer, and Policy Co-ordinator at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Joseph Osiakwan said the policy is being development in collaboration with Ghana Cocobod and the Foresty Commission. 

He said what has been happening in previous years is to move into such forest reserves where Cocoa is planted and cut down the trees,  but that also tends to degrade the forest, hence the decision to blacklist such cocoa produce.

Mr. Osiakwan said a tracking device will be used to identify where such cocoa produce is coming from.
