Fighting Corruption: NDC calls for speedy passage of RTI Bill 

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is calling on Parliament to speed up work on the Right to Information Bill (RTI) because it is a vital tool for the Special Prosecutor to do an effective work. 

At a news conference in Accra the General Secretary of the Party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, expressed dissatisfaction at the government's unpreparedness at fighting corruption. 

He is of the view that the reason given for the withdrawal of the RTI bill from parliament is unacceptable. 

Mr Asiedu Nketiah refuted claims that the NDC is to blame for Ghana's poor showing in a 2017 report on corruption by Transparency International. 

Flanked by the National Organiser, Kofi Adams, and National Vice chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Mr Asiedu Nketiah mentioned the BOST and cash-for-seat saga as pivotal in Ghana's fall in the report by Transparency International. 

According to him, Ghana was ranked the highest in the history of the report under former President Mahama. 

He said public perception on corruption has been better under the NDC.

Mr Asiedu Nketiah called for a number of bills to be passed to aid the office of the Special Prosecutor in the fight against corruption.

He reiterated that the New Patriotic Party's (NPP's) performance was not influenced in any way by the NDC's performance in 2016.
