Association of Cashew Processors Ghana inaugurated to revamp industry

Cashew processors collaborate to leverage economies of scale in value addition

Players in the Cashew sector value chain have concerted their effort to formalise the cooperation of cashew processors in a quest to revamp and transform the cashew processing industry.

To this end, the Association of Cashew Processors Ghana (ACPG) has been inaugurated to provide processors of cashew nuts, shell and apples the possibility to advocate for their business interests with one united voice. 

It is the core vision of the Association of Cashew Processors Ghana to increase the competitiveness of the cashew processing industry in the country by offering high quality cashew products to the domestic and international market. Ghana currently processes only 20 percent of total volume of cashew produced. 

According to the newly inducted President of the Association, Nil Smith, ACPG wishes to change the status of the industry and therefore will implement a 5-year strategic plan to revamp small and medium-sized cashew processing businesses in the country. 

He tells Radio Ghana business news that the objective of the Association is in tandem with government's vision to implement the 10-year Cashew Development masterplan. 

The Senior Industrial Promotion Officer of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Kwesi Ofori Antwi, who officially outdoored the Association indicated government's commitment to supporting the work of players in the sector to improve the gains from the high end of the cashew value chain. 

The Association hopes to achieve its objective through internally generated funds, cooperation with the African Cashew Alliance (ACA), as well as the Competitive Cashew initiative (ComCashew).
